This is Katie. I like to call her ‘The Little Girl That Sparkles’….because that is exactly what she does. I met little Katie on Saturday during our Help-Portrait Event (full post to come about the amazing event later). When I walked into the waiting room at the start of our Help-Portrait event- I caught this little girl that sparkles out of the corner of my eye. She was radiating excitement and joy as she patiently waited for her free portrait as a part of the Help Portrait movement in Cape. Her sweet mother watched as she beamed and twirled showing off her fancy dress and sparkly red shoes. She and her mother are currently living in a local shelter because of a little rough spot they are going through at the moment. She spun as if she had not a care in the world. She twirled as though life were her oyster and she was the luckiest girl in the world. She just might be. Because despite her and her mother’s circumstances, she gleamed with happiness. It was refreshing and inspiring. She was put with one of the other photographers on Saturday- but- when I went to talk to her in the waiting area- she excitedly told me that she was SO EXCITED and she was having the BEST DAY EVER. “Look at my curls!” she squealed. “Those ladies did my hair!” I knelt down and talked to her about her shoot. She said that she heard me singing to some other kids. She wanted me to sing to her and take her picture. I pulled her mother aside and told her that I absolutely MUST shoot her daughter. An entire shoot. So- today – I had Katie….all to myself. Ps- last night I told Sarah (the amazing stylist from GYPSY RHYTHM and one of my best friends) about this amazing little girl that I was shooting from the Help-Portrait event. Sarah came over with not one, but FOUR fantastic- fully styled outfits from head to toe for Katie. We would expect no less from our fashion guru. A special thank you to Gypsy Rhythm for adding to this magical day. Back to the shoot today….when sweet Katie and her mom met me at the studio- her excitement was just as visible as it was on Saturday. I could hardly wait to hand her the 4 bags of clothing and treats from Sarah. Her reactions were captured below. She continued to say- “You mean….these are for me? Like- I get to keep them- forever?!” Yes, Katie. They are just for you- and you get to keep them forever. Our shoot was full of fun and energy- Katie was the perfect model. At the close of our shoot, Katie’s mom told me that Katie wanted to be a photographer too one day after watching us shoot on Saturday. That just might be where ‘the little girl that sparkles’ ends up. What a fantastic day- and what an absolute honor to capture the joyful spirit of this inspiring child. First- you will see a video of Katie when she opened her makeup kit from Sarah- after she opened all of her clothes. I love this kid.
I met this sweet baby during our first shoot when she was just around 7 days old and this is our 3rd shoot and it just keeps getting better! =)
Just a few of the images captured on our Santa Minis at the Train Station! We LOVE this Santa!
